Megh Merydh (Cloud and Earth) is a series of watercolour and ink works that hover between abstraction and figuration — clouds that refuse to rain, earth that remembers the sky. The title draws from Bhojpuri folk phrases describing the longing between land and atmosphere, the erotic tension of a storm that never arrives.
Each painting is a weather event condensed onto paper — washes of indigo, sepia, and pale ochre overlapping like distant thunderheads. The marks are both deliberate and surrendered, allowing pigment to bleed and settle on its own terms.
These works were created during a residency in rural Bihar, where daily encounters with monsoon clouds and parched fields shaped a visual vocabulary of waiting — not passive, but charged. The series asks: what does the sky owe the earth? And what do we owe to the spaces between them?
