KNMA Commission

Site-specific · Video · Found objects · 2023 — Kiran Nadar Museum of Art, New Delhi.

KNMA (Kiran Nadar Museum of Art) commission brought together two seemingly disparate worlds — the precision of modernist abstraction and the raw, embodied vocabulary of folk traditions. The installation occupies an entire gallery, transforming the white cube into a site of negotiation between the archival and the living.

Using found objects, video projections, and hand-painted panels, the work traces how artistic modernism in India has often sidelined vernacular practices. The installation reclaims space for the folk — not as decorative backdrop, but as a critical, active voice within contemporary art discourse.

Visitors move through a labyrinth of suspended textiles, projected archival footage, and sculptural interventions. The experience is intentionally disorienting — a reminder that the margins are not peripheral, but central to how we understand culture.
